Is Xolair Covered by Insurance?

With the recent FDA approval of Xolair, it is likely to be covered by insurance. Previously, Xolair had been granted Breakthrough Therapy Designation for the prevention of severe allergic reactions to food allergy by the FDA, but this was considered an off-label usage and often not covered by insurance. If our allergist prescribes this medication for you, we can work with you and your insurance plan to help understand if there will be any out-of-pocket costs before proceeding.

What is Oral Immunotherapy (OIT) and How Does Xolair Work with it?

Oral Immunotherapy is a food allergy treatment that can desensitize patients to their allergens. By offering the patients small, regular, and gradually increasing amounts of the allergen, it can help build up the body’s tolerance to those foods. The goal of OIT is to protect against severe reaction to accidental exposures and increasing quality of life. Over time, OIT retrains the immune system to decrease adverse reactions to the specific allergen.

At Latitude, we offer Xolair in conjunction with OIT to increase safety for some patients.
